Mentors in Motion
Build your teamwork as leaders in healthy behaviors. Practice effective communication. Develop your positive coaching skills. Set achievable goals to become healthy and active based on your personal preferences. In other words, become a mentor of change in your school, agency, home and community!

Mentors in Motion℠ (MiM) is a comprehensive healthy behaviors and personal empowerment leadership training program that engages both teens and adults who work with you in physical activity and other interactive exercises designed to promote success and increase self-awareness, build confidence and strengthen interpersonal skills. Success Strategies from the MiM program can be applied to a number of purposes including personal development, staff/professional development, and team building. MiM is targeted to high school students, college students and adults/organizations who work directly with youth. The MiM program provides great opportunities for professional and staff development for individuals and organizations who work with youth.
MiM not only incorporates the Physical Activity Leadership℠ (PAL) training, but also extends participants' knowledge and learning even further by providing additional days of training curriculum.
MiM lessons are primarily focused on:
- Personal empowerment
- Being a positive role model/mentor
- Personal fitness/nutrition education
- Communicating effectively
- Leadership/advocacy
- Resolving conflicts & group management
- Work readiness
- First Aid & CPR

Additionally, as part of the MiM teen program model, high school students who complete the initial training will participate in a minimum of 24 hours of job shadowing at A World Fit For Kids! (WFIT) elementary/middle school sites or other youth-serving programs in their community. Teens then have the opportunity to apply for 6-month internships and educational stipends as Assistant Coach-Mentors for WFIT or other youth-serving agencies to utilize the knowledge, skills and experience they gained through the MiM training sessions. WFIT provides continual training and follow-up throughout the school year to ensure that each teen MiM participant receives advanced work readiness preparation and ongoing support.
Through this service-learning experience, MiM teens gain valuable self-confidence and job skills, and are prepared to stay in school and graduate—ready to pursue post-secondary education and contribute to a skilled workforce. Evaluation results have shown that 94% percent of students who participated in the 6-month training and internship program have graduated from high school since 2003, and this is primarily from a high school with a 49.5% graduation rate!

WFIT is able to customize the MiM program to meet the specific needs of client organizations. For more information, please contact WFIT at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call (213) 387-7712.
