Freshman Leadership Program

Prepare incoming freshman with the confidence and competence to succeed in high school! Understand the opportunities and challenges of high school. Build mentoring relationships and practice Success Strategies. Develop healthy relationships and shape and attain goals. Discover the power to create success!

The Freshman Leadership Program℠ (FLP) equips incoming freshmen with the tools to smoothly transition to the high school environment and successfully graduate.

FLP

This program combines opportunities for experiential learning, personal growth, and peer bonding in a safe environment—where participants can get beyond their self-imposed limitations and discover their power to create success. High school students who have completed the Mentors in Motion℠ training serve as group leaders and mentors to FLP participants, guiding their younger peers through action learning, reflective-discussion workshops, games, and team-building exercises.

The initial FLP workshops (9 hours total) are designed to:

  • Provide a safe place for honest and open communication
  • Encourage curiosity to make learning fun
  • Build self-esteem, self-awareness and self-confidence
  • Promote effective communication skills
  • Develop healthy relationship skills
  • Encourage participation/service in the community
  • Foster development of personal Success Strategies

As part of the A World Fit For Kids! (WFIT) model, FLP students participate in our Mentors in Motion℠ program once they begin high school. They continue to be mentored and engage in additional follow-up workshops throughout all four years of high school, receiving critical personal and academic support. For more info on this program, please contact WFIT at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call (213) 387-7712.
