Physical Activity and Fitness Awards Program
A World Fit For Kids! (WFIT) is an official partner of the President's Challenge Physical Activity and Fitness Awards Program. WFIT has committed to supporting the mission of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN), which is to engage, educate, and empower all Americans across their lifespan to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition.
The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) is for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities and is a great way to jumpstart or maintain a healthy lifestyle. By partnering with the President’s Challenge program to promote PALA, WFIT supports the First Lady’s Let's Move Iniative aimed at fighting to end childhood obesity within a generation by getting more youth and families committed to being active.
The goals of the PALA challenge are:
- Adults (18 years and older): Be active 30 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, for 6 out of 8 weeks. As an alternative, count daily activity steps using a pedometer (goal: 8,500).
- Kids and teens (ages 6 - 17 years): Be active 60 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, for 6 out of 8 weeks. As an alternative, count daily activity steps using a pedometer (girls' goal: 11,000; boys' goal: 13,000).
