Programs
Middle School
A World Fit For Kids! (WFIT) middle school afterschool programming includes:
- Physical Activity
- Sports
- Homework Assistance/Study Time
- Enrichment Activities
- Mentoring

By the time they get to middle school, kids want to assert their independence and often don’t like being told what to do, so WFIT listens to what they have to say and give them options that reflect their interests.
Each day, the program begins with a 1-hour homework assistance/study period led by a Coach-Mentor. Each student is then able to choose a main club-based activity—ranging from football, basketball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, dance, drill, cheer and other traditional and non-traditional sports to arts, drama, photography, music and DJ clubs.
Middle school programs are conducted in a health-conscious environment—junk food is prohibited, healthy snacks are provided, and health/nutrition messages are integrated in formal and informal ways. Students receive nutrition education that includes real life experiences with food and how it affects us physically, emotionally and mentally, either contributing to their energy level or detracting from it. We also emphasize the social and emotional connections to healthy behaviors.

Coach-Mentors also provide personalized guidance and encourage students to push beyond their self-imposed limitations as they refine existing skills or try new things. Students provide feedback on program success and make suggestions for new activities.
These programs are effective at reducing obesity and encouraging academic success while consciously developing emotional health and self-confidence, promoting positive social interaction, and encouraging personal responsibility.
Freshmen Leadership Program
WFIT's Freshman Leadership Program℠ (FLP) engages 8th grade students in workshops where they develop the tools necessary to successfully navigate their high school experience leading to graduation. Ongoing workshops and meetings throughout all four years of high school give participants opportunities to engage in leadership development, community service, college preparation and continued mentoring from older peers.
WFIT serves the following middle schools in Los Angeles:
- Eagle Rock Middle School
- Patrick Henry Middle School
- Salvador Castro Middle School
- Virgil Middle School
