About A World Fit For Kids!
A World Fit For Kids! (WFIT) is the leading nonprofit provider of after school physical activity and youth development programs for children and teens. Our mission is to prepare young people for fit and fulfilling lives!
For the past fifteen years, WFIT has served more than 130,000 students - successfully getting kids moving and motivated! They have become healthy role models in some of the most economically challenged communities of Los Angeles.
It’s working!
Our results are impressive – from improved fitness and higher grades for elementary school students to reduced dropout rates and employment for high school students.
WFIT uses physical activity, nutrition and mentoring as the hooks to create meaningful experiences that encourage each individual’s understanding of both themselves and the world they live in.
Now more than ever, improving students’ fitness levels and overall health is critically important to combat the epidemic of childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes as well as the massive economic and social issues that overweight and inactivity place on our communities.
WFIT addresses several social issues at once.
For teens and college students:
- Fitness,
- Personal development,
- School graduation rates
- Job skills
- Job readiness
- Mentoring
For younger children:
- Fitness
- Homework assistance
- School connectedness
- Mentoring
WFIT is successful because it intentionally develops emotional, mental and physical fitness, and keeps elementary through high school youth actively engaged in positive and productive after school activities.
The goal for each student is a simple but vitally important one.
To gain the knowledge and skills necessary
to make healthy lifestyle choices that will last a lifetime.
Last year, WFIT was honored with the prestigious Spotlight Award Gold Medal from the California Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports as the 2007 “outstanding organization that positively impacts physical activity and fitness levels of California’s children and youth.”
