A World Fit For Kids! > About

...where all kids, even the most disavantaged, receive the guidance they need to be physically, mentally, and emotionally fit.

...where children have positive role models and can themselves become leaders and role models for future generations.

...where all students complete high school for higher educations, the work force, and a healthy prosperous future.

A World Fit for Kids! is committed to ensuring that students are fit, healthy and ready to learn. Our programs and training approaches are intentionally designed to promote personal development principles and healthy behaviors practices that help students succeed in school, work and in life. Since 1993, we have brought more than $46 million into underserved communities in Los Angeles, made life-changing opportunities available to over 300,000 low-income children and young people and trained more than 10,000 classroom teachers and expanded learning staff members.

We’ve employed more than 2,900 local community residents and developed strong partnerships in the education, corporate and nonprofit sectors. We’ve offered our programs free of charge, saved parents millions of dollars in childcare costs and made it possible for many single parents, and especially women, to become financially self-sufficient. And, by addressing childhood obesity, the most common and costly medical condition facing our country today, we aren’t just changing lives, we’re saving lives.

The result is a triple bottom line for the young people we serve:
obesity reduction, increased graduation rates and work readiness/jobs.

In recognition of our impact, we received the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Gold Medal Award as the most outstanding non-profit organization in California for positively impacting the physical activity, fitness and well-being of California’s children and youth. Two of our sites have been certified by the Network for a Healthy California and the Center for Collaborative Solutions as Healthy Behaviors Learning Centers, or world-class learning labs.

At the state level, we’ve led the way in supporting legislation and quality standards in physical activity. Nationally, we’ve trained over 1,500 Nike employees to become physical activity volunteer leaders and Community Ambassadors as part of its commitment to the First Lady’s Let’s Move Active Schools campaign. We work closely with Members of Congress, the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and our colleagues to adopt health-enhancing policies. And, internationally, we’ve provided training in physical activity in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, South Korea and Australia. We would welcome the opportunity to talk with you in greater detail about the impact we are having and the ways in which we can create the future together!

Yours in good health,

Chief Executive Officer
